'Battle Of The Clubs' Blood Drive Upcoming In Greenwich

The event is being organized by several of Greenwich's country clubs and is open to everyone.

GREENWICH, CT — Town Hall will host the "Greenwich Battle of the Clubs" blood drive on Thursday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is being organized by several of Greenwich's country clubs as a friendly competition to see who can donate the most blood to the American Red Cross, which continues to face a national blood shortage.

First Selectman Fred Camillo noted in his most recent community newsletter that the American Red Cross declared an emergency blood and platelet shortage after the nation's blood supply dropped 25 percent in June.

"This drop brought things to a critically low level and people everywhere should be concerned," Camillo said. "I am urging people to come donate if they can as the national blood supply isn't rebuilding fast enough to keep up with the demand from hospitals."

Those interested in donating can sign up in advance by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by going online here.

Camillo also noted that if residents give blood by July 31, the Red Cross will send a Fandango movie reward by email. More information is available here.
