The brand has plans to expand frozen yogurt to other Connecticut stores in the coming months.

GREENWICH, CT — Van Leeuwen Ice Cream will launch its frozen yogurt offering at its Greenwich location beginning Thursday, Aug. 13, with plans to expand it to other Connecticut stores in the coming months.

To mark the launch, guests can purchase a small frozen yogurt for $1 from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at the shop, located at 375 Greenwich Ave. Toppings are not included in the promotion.

The frozen yogurt is made with organic A2 Bulgarian yogurt and will be available in four flavors: tart, matcha, passion fruit and coconut. Guests can order the flavors individually or swirled together.

Topping options include pistachio kataifi, passion fruit, fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, mochi, chocolate curls, chocolate hazelnut sauce, brownie pieces, cookie dough, Biscoff cookie crumble and peanut butter cups.

Van Leeuwen officially debuted frozen yogurt in March at its NoHo scoop shop in New York City and has since introduced it at select stores across the U.S.

"Frozen yogurt should taste great. We wanted to make one the same way we approach everything else - with really good ingredients," said co-owner Ben Van Leeuwen in an announcement.

"Launching it in Greenwich feels especially meaningful because it's where Pete and I first got our start, and we're excited to share something new with the community that inspired us."

The Van Leeuwen ice cream journey began in Greenwich in 2002. Brothers and Greenwich natives Ben and Pete Van Leeuwen rented a Good Humor truck and drove it around Greenwich for two summers.

With the money he made, Ben went backpacking around Asia and Europe and became inspired by the food he discovered.

Founded in 2008, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream started out of a yellow scoop truck on the streets of NYC by the Van Leeuwens and Laura O'Neill.

Their French-style ice cream, which is made with more than double the amount of egg yolks as standard ice cream, quickly gained a loyal following.

There are now more than 100 storefronts, and their ice cream can be found in grocery stores across the country.

The Greenwich location opened in September 2022 and marked the brand's first suburban shop.
