Greenwich Police Urge E-Bike And Scooter Safety After Incidents Involving Injuries

"E-bikes and e-scooters are not toys," police said in a recent social media post.

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is urging residents, especially parents and young riders, to be mindful about e-bike and e-scooter safety.

Recently, police said they've responded to incidents involving young riders who suffered injuries while operating e-bikes or e-scooters.

"Parents and guardians should speak with young riders about safe operation, appropriate riding locations, and the importance of following applicable laws and manufacturer recommendations," police said in a recent social media post.

"E-bikes and e-scooters are not toys. Their speed and interaction with motor vehicles, pedestrians, and other roadway users can create a significant risk of injury when they are operated carelessly or without appropriate safety equipment."

Police noted that one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the risk of injury is to wear a properly fitted helmet.

"A helmet should be worn regardless of the distance traveled or how familiar a rider may be with the area," police said.
