GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Fire Department on Monday congratulated Deputy Fire Marshal Bob Roth and Deputy Chief Erik Maziarz on their retirements after 50 years of service to the town.

"Bob and Erik have each left a lasting mark on the Greenwich Fire Department," the GFD said in a Facebook post. "Their knowledge, leadership, dedication, and commitment to the community will be missed by all of us."

Roth served as a firefighter, deputy fire marshal and fire marshal during his 27-year-career and was instrumental in developing the GFD's child car seat safety installation program, the department said. He also helped lead public education programming in local schools.

"His commitment to fire prevention and public safety extended well beyond the firehouse," the GFD noted.

Maziarz rose through the ranks during his 23 years of service, going from firefighter to lieutenant and deputy chief.

"Over the past several years, he was instrumental in the planning and purchase of new fire apparatus, helping ensure our members have the equipment they need to safely serve the community," the GFD said.

Maziarz also played a key role in updating the department's hose layouts and operating procedures to help modernize how firefighters operate at emergencies.

"Please join us in congratulating Bob and Erik on their retirements and thanking them for their many years of service to the Town of Greenwich," the GFD added. "We wish them well in the next chapter of their lives!"
