Opening Date Announced For New Grocery Store In Greenwich

GREENWICH, CT — At long last, an opening date has been announced for the new DeCicco & Sons grocery store in Greenwich.

According to a social media post this week, the Greenwich location at 21 Glenville Road will open its doors on Sept. 9.

Store hours are still listed as TBD on the company website; however, most other DeCicco locations open at 7:30 a.m.

Residents have waited for the store's opening since the Greenwich Planning & Zoning Commission approved plans for the store in 2024.

A video posted to Instagram by DeCicco & Sons shows a compilation of messages from residents asking about the Greenwich store.

There have been several delays due to the permitting process, and also an issue with a retaining wall on the property, First Selectman Fred Camillo said last month.

The space was formerly occupied by Stop & Shop, which closed in June 2023.

"We have always understood the value of having a neighborhood grocery store and Western Greenwich residents needed this after the Stop & Shop location closed," Camillo noted in his weekly newsletter to the community on Friday.

"I have had many calls with the DeCicco family throughout this process and I thank them for bringing their business to Greenwich. They are a great chain committed to good food and customer service and they are going to be an asset to Greenwich," Camillo added. "I know residents are going to enjoy having them here and we are eager to welcome them to our community officially next week."

DeCicco & Sons was founded in 1973 by John DeCicco Sr., according to the company's website. The business began as a small grocery store in the Bronx, N.Y.

"For over 50 years, DeCicco & Sons has had a proud history of bringing the largest selection of high-quality food available to customers with a friendly, personal touch," the company's website says. "This simple, unwavering mentality has enabled the company to expand throughout Putnam and Westchester Counties."

There are now 11 stores open throughout Westchester in Ardsley, Armonk, Bedford, Brewster, Eastchester, Harrison, Larchmont, Millwood, Pelham, Sleepy Hollow and Somers.

The grocery store had been holding job fairs at the Greenwich location this summer in preparation for opening.
