GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Historical Society's Fall Harvest Festival will feature live music, seasonal food, family activities and its annual scarecrow-building competition.
Too Blue will perform bluegrass and swing music on the society's campus. Cider and a mashed potato bar with fixings will also be available.
This year's festival will honor the history of the harvest season in New England, with family-friendly crafts and activities inspired by the season's natural bounty.
The scarecrow competition will feature five categories: Best Overall, Most Fashionable, Most Traditional, Most Creative and Judge's Choice. Participants in the Most Fashionable category can draw inspiration from the society's current exhibition, Fashioning America.
Judges will award prizes at the end of the event. Prizes include donations from Clay Art Center, Wildacre Rotisserie, Il Pastaficio, Athena Books, Fairfield and Greenwich Cheese Company, Roost Coffee and Kitchen, Little Pub and others.
All scarecrow materials are provided with the purchase of an individual scarecrow frame. Participants are encouraged to bring their own clothing or accessories to personalize their scarecrows. Registration is available to reserve a scarecrow.
Admission for members is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 3 to 18. Nonmember admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 3 to 18. Children under 3 attend free. Scarecrows cost $25 each.
