Over the last 20 years of her career, she served under four police chiefs as an executive assistant until her retirement in 2018.

"To those who had the privilege of working alongside her, Nancy was far more than a colleague. She was a trusted confidante, a steadfast presence, and a cherished member of the Greenwich Police Department family," the GPD said in an announcement.

"Known for her quick wit, warm personality, and ability to hold her own among a station full of police officers, Nancy earned the admiration, affection, and respect of those around her," the department added. "Although much of her work took place behind the scenes, Nancy played an essential role in the Department's daily operations."

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at Centerville Church, located at 135 Standley St. in Beverly, Mass.

The GPD extended condolences to Aurelia's family, friends, and former colleagues.
