GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Department of Public Works will begin its annual leaf collection program on Nov. 9, with two collections per numeric section, weather permitting.
Leaves will be collected Monday through Saturday, and the program is expected to finish in mid-December. The service is available to residential properties of a half-acre or less in the R-20 building zone on public roads.
The first collection is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 9, in these sections:
Residents should check the town website or hotline for the remaining sections and scheduling. The second and final collection will begin once the first collection is completed in all sections.
Residents are asked to pile leaves near the street but off roads and sidewalks, where they can create safety hazards for pedestrians and bicyclists and interfere with stormwater drainage.
There will be no leaf collection on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, or Friday, Nov. 27. The schedule may change because of adverse weather or other unforeseen events.
Beginning Nov. 3, residents can check their street's collection schedule through the 24-hour leaf collection hotline at 203-618-7698 or town's leaf collection webpage.
Residents should follow these collection guidelines:
Residents also can drop off leaves at Holly Hill Resource Recovery Facility with a permit or mulch leaves and leave them in place.
Mulching can improve lawns and reduce the environmental footprint associated with collecting, hauling and composting leaves elsewhere. More information is available here.
The town said it removes an average of more than 30,000 cubic yards of leaves each year and sends them to a Connecticut farm for composting.
