GREENWICH, CT — It's Election Day across the country, and so far in Greenwich, operations at the polls seem to be running smoothly as of Tuesday afternoon.
"As always, there is equipment that somehow fails between testing and Election Day, but we have spares and experts here in the office to handle those problems," Greenwich Republican Registrar of Voters Fred DeCaro told Patch. "Nothing has prevented anybody from voting in a timely fashion."
According to the Town of Greenwich live voter turnout tracker, there have been 17,182 votes cast as of 1:11 p.m., which includes early vote totals (7,539), absentee ballots (1,402) and Election Day votes (8,241) - good for a total turnout of 42.9 percent. There are 40,019 eligible voters in Greenwich.
DeCaro said he expects an additional small delivery of absentee ballots
The turnout in Greenwich for a midterm election has historically been around 65 percent, DeCaro said. He expects that trend to continue on Tuesday.
"Greenwich and Connecticut are the land of steady habits. We find that whether people vote early, whether they vote on Election Day, whether they vote in the morning of Election Day or the afternoon of Election Day, in the end, the turnout pretty much stays very similar from like election to like election," DeCaro added.
Polls close at 8 p.m. in Connecticut. Information on polling places in Greenwich can be found here.
"It's easiest when you bring your ID," DeCaro said to residents who have still not voted yet but plan to later today. "We'll get you through the line as soon as we can."
Patch will have updates on election results after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
