GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo proclaimed Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, Empy and Gloria Jaramillo Day, recognizing the sisters behind Empy's Day Spa. The town proclamation honors their entrepreneurship and decades of ties to Greenwich customers.

The sisters immigrated from Colombia in 1982 and opened Nails by Empy at 3 Field Road in Cos Cob on Monday, Nov. 3, 1986, according to the proclamation. Two of 18 children, they used their business success to help family back in Colombia while working long hours to build a loyal customer base.

In 1997, they expanded the salon into Empy's Day Spa, according to the proclamation. Customers followed the business through five address changes to its current location at 143 West Putnam Ave.

The proclamation also notes that the Greenwich Library Oral History Project recognized the sisters as part of the town's heritage in 2012. Camillo urged residents to join him in recognizing the sisters and their business.
