GA Global Scholar Earns Distinction
Annabelle Galef, a Greenwich Academy junior has been selected as one of only two girls from the U.S. to represent their schools and National Coalition of Girls’ Schools (NCGS) at the Student Leadership Conference in Sydney, Australia, from January 18 until January 22, 2012. The conference is hosted by the Alliance of Girls’ School (Australasia). Annabelle will be joining 149 other student delegates from a mix of Alliance schools in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
The Global Scholar Program, an extension of the school’s Duff Center, was launched in spring 2010 with the goal of preparing students to be active and engaged members of the increasingly global community. The program requires, among other things, international travel and project-based scholarship. As a Global Scholar at Greenwich Academy, Annabelle’s achievements have included being a co-editor of the Linguist, GA’s outstanding multilingual journal, now in its second year of publication. In addition, she traveled to India with Duff Center Co-director Connie Blunden and a group of four other Upper Schoolers last summer. The GA troupe partnered with the Akanksha Foundation and Teach for India to better understand the educational challenges and reform movements there.
