For the 3rd year in a row, B*CURED’s B*Active Program will have a team of eight athletes helping to raise desperately needed funds for brain cancer research by running the ING NYC Marathon.
Each athlete has a heartfelt story about his or her reasons for joining the effort. This year’s team includes 3rd year Team B*CURED member Gareth Evans of NYC; 2nd year team members Peter Bailey of Riverside, Ct, Blake Stevens of Wilton, Ct; and first year team members, Christina Vitale of Greenwich, Ct; Marco Schnabl of NYC, Magnus Tangen of Rowayton, Ct, and Bo Koch of NYC.

Bailey lost his mother-in-law to brain cancer in 2006 and is deeply committed to raising awareness about this devastating disease. Stevens lost both of his grandmothers to brain cancer and after running his first ever marathon for B*CURED last year, is returning to beat his time. Schnabl has committed to wearing a costume on race day chosen by the highest donor. “Super Schnabl” has dreamed of running the NYC marathon since coming to the US from Germany in 2005 and will also shave his head if he raises over $6000! Evans, the teams most tenured member, ran last year with his step-daughter. This year he will be sporting an orange and blue Mohawk in true B*CURED style!
B*CURED builds awareness about brain cancer and funds research to develop a cure. Since it’s launch in 2008, B*CURED has awarded five grants to research doctors at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Columbia University, Yale University, and Massachusetts General Hospital. Nearly 550 people in the US are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor every day. There are no known causes for brain cancer and research is drastically underfunded.
