GREENWICH CT — A New Jersey man accused of sending a fraudulent check to a Greenwich resident was transported to Greenwich on an arrest warrant Wednesday, according to police. On March 12, 2019, a local resident reported they were the victim of a financial fraud, police said.
According to police, the resident owns a property out of state and rents it through an online listing. A man contacted the resident and agreed to rent the property, then sent a check to the resident in excess of the amount agreed upon, police said.
The man then called the resident and asked for a refund of the excessive amount. The resident transferred the money but was later informed the check she was given was fraudulent, police said.
