Attempted House Burglary in Mid-Country Greenwich

Greenwich Police say thieves are trying to access homes by using equipment residents leave outdoors.

Greenwich Police are advising residents to put away equipment, especially ladders, because burglars are using them to try to gain access to homes.

Last week, residents of a Parsonage Road home called police shortly before 1 a.m. and officers found that someone used a ladder left outdoors on the property to try to access a second-floor patio door. “The officer found a ladder propped up against the second floor,” said Lt. Kraig Gray.

Gray said, “There was some damage to the second-floor patio door but for whatever reasons, the burglar left. There was no contact with the residents” during the Aug. 16 incident.

“Lock your second-floors windows, doors and balconies,” Gray said. “If you have ladders, put them away. Burglars generally use your equipment to steal your property. Generally speaking, burglars don’t travel with ladders,” Gray added.

Gray said that if residents are considering installation of home security systems, “it is worth the added cost to make sure that second-floor entry ways are alarmed,”
