Attorney Preps Democratic Run For Greenwich First Selectman Post

If nominated, he will face five-term Republican incumbent Peter Tesei.

GREENWICH, CT — Democrat Sandy Litvack, a New York and Connecticut attorney who has lived in Greenwich for nearly a dozen years, is preparing to run for Greenwich First Selectman against Republican incumbent Peter Tesei.

Litvack recently announced his candidacy in an email to his fellow Democrats, in which he said it's time for new leadership in Greenwich after Tesei's five terms as First Selectman.

"As you all know, I have not previously been involved in town politics. Nor have I previously sought elective office," wrote Litvack. "But, our most recent election has taught me that democracy is not a spectator sport. If we want to sustain our democracy it is important that we all become involved. I am seeking to be involved as First Selectman for one simple reason -- because I believe I can make a difference. I can and will reach out to all the people in Greenwich, especially the new, younger citizens, to join me in reinvigorating the Town by injecting new thoughts, new ideas, and new skill sets in the way we do things. A decade of one man, one party governance cannot and will not do that."

According to Democratic Town Committee Chairman Jeff Ramer, Litvack is currently the only Democrat to come forward to take on Tesei; Greenwich Democrats are slated to select a nominee during a meeting on Wednesday night.

Tesei is seeking a sixth term as the town's top elected official, and he will be a formidable opponent for Litvack; in 2015, Tesei received better that 70 percent of the vote to capture his fifth term.
