GREENWICH, CT — The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich has settled several lawsuits that were brought forward by six men who said they were sexually abused as children at the club, according to the Greenwich Time.

The Time reported that the unknown settlement is "meant to cover physical and mental injuries as well as potential loss of earnings."

The Time said that in three separate lawsuits, the men, who are now in their 50s, said they were abused by Andrew Atkinson over a period of nine years in the mid-1970s and early 1980s at the club and elsewhere. Atkinson was a teen at the time and served as a locker room supervisor, the Time noted.

"The Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich has settled several lawsuits that had been brought by adults who alleged that they were sexually abused at the Club over 40 years ago. The settlement ends four years of litigation, provides meaningful relief for the Plaintiffs, and allows the Club to focus on its mission of serving children in the community. The safety of our children remains our highest priority for our Club," the statement said in part.

"The Club is strong. The Club is thriving. The Club works every day to create a safe, positive and inclusive environment, so the almost 1,600 kids we serve each year are provided with every opportunity to be successful in life. We remain confident about the Club’s future, just as we are confident about the future of the children it serves."
