Business Secrets From the Monks

Author to speak at Sacred Heart Greenwich

August Turak is a successful entrepreneur, corporate executive, media contributor, and award-winning author who attributes much of his success to an unusual source, living and working alongside the Trappist monks of Mepkin Abbey. Monks have focused on the meaning of labor for centuries. Their faith helps them transform the smallest act into an act of noble giving. It is seeing all parts of life as a means to love and to serve that brings significance to our work. People of faith bring meaning to life rather than seeking work to give us meaning. We already have it, and we give it. This simple reversal is what August calls a transformation of being. We are changed, and we bring life and meaning in all that we do. These simple yet profound lessons are often lost in the manic pursuit of profit. Profit, says August, is a marker of the fulfillment of your mission, not just a bottom line indicator. The interesting fact is that when the focus becomes giving to those you serve the bottom line consistently improves. It is faith that answers the question "why" and that makes all the difference. Come and learn from one who has journeyed into unusual places and come back to tell us profound lessons of life and work.
