Byram Homeowners In Legal Dispute Over Greenwich Cemetery Land: Report

The town is looking to take over a portion of Jeffrey and Andrea Stewart property.

GREENWICH, CT — The town is seeking to take over a portion of property owned by Byram residents Jeffrey and Andrea Stewart next to the Byram Cemetery, but the couple have filed a lawsuit to stop the move, reports the Greenwich Time.

Greenwich officials claim that old maps show that graves of early African-Americans are buried under or near the portion of the property the Stewarts have used for their vehicles.

The Stewarts dispute those claims, in part due to a study of the land that did not determine that any bodies were buried there.
