GREENWICH, CT — In an effort to decrease flooding during heavy rainfall events, First Selectman Fred Camillo is reminding residents to be mindful about where they place their garbage.

While Greenwich experienced minor impacts from last weekend's storm, there were some flooding issues in town.

"We were lucky to avoid the heavy impacts of the storms that severely damaged roads and infrastructure elsewhere in Connecticut and no major issues have yet been reported, but our residents once again had to deal with flooding and there are times when this can all be avoided with some simple courtesy by people," Camillo said in his weekly newsletter to the community. "Last weekend’s storm found, as has also happened in the past, storm drains that are blocked by people carelessly tossing their garbage. Trash that people thoughtlessly toss away can clog storm drains, causing rainwater to back up and creating flooding that can be avoided."

"You wouldn’t think you’d have to remind people to throw garbage away properly but this kind of laziness and carelessness can cause real damage so please be respectful of your neighbors and take that little bit of extra time to do things right," Camillo said.
