Changes in Greenwich's Culinary Landscape

Two new restaurants and an old stand-by closes.

For residents on the eastern end of Greenwich, dining choices are expanding.

Work continues at the former Hunan Cafe in the Riverside Common shopping center on East Putnam Avenue where Chipotle Mexican Grill is preparing to open. The opening date hasn’t been announced by the company. However, it can’t be too far off — signs announcing the restaurant chain is hiring are now posted on the building exterior.

This will be Chipotle’s second Greenwich location. The first opened in 2012 at 49 Greenwich Ave.

At the opposite end of the shopping center, Chop’t Creative Salad Co. officially opens Monday morning with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 11:30. The restaurant is the brainchild of Tony Shure and Colin McCabe who opened their first Chop’t shop in 2001 in New York City’s Union Square neighborhood.

The restaurant space was formerly home to the Riverside Deli.

On the western end of town, the McDonald’s restaurant at 268 W. Putnam Ave. closed mid-week last week. Signs placed at the entrance and exit announce the restaurant is temporarily closed for renovations and construction.

To sate your appetite for a Big Mac, you’ll have to head back to Riverside where the town’s only other McDonald’s is located at 1207 E. Putnam Ave.
