Child Pornography Investigation Leads To Arrest Of Greenwich Man

The suspect allegedly had hundreds of videos and images "of children engaged in sexually explicit acts," according to Greenwich police.

GREENWICH, CT — A 20-year-old Greenwich man was arrested on a charge of first-degree possession of child pornography on July 15 after authorities allegedly discovered that he had hundreds of videos and images "of children engaged in sexually explicit acts," according to Greenwich police.

John B. Zimmel, of Wildwood Drive, was arrested following a lengthy investigation that began through a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, wrote Greenwich police in a statement.

Members of the Greenwich Police Special Victims Section and the Southwestern Technical Investigations Unit raided Zimmel's home and vehicles on May 5 and found "numerous digital storage devices," three of which were sniffed out by a police dog, according to Greenwich police.

"Subsequent forensic examination of the digital storage devices revealed over 130 videos and over 60 images of children engaged in sexually explicit acts, as well as multiple online 'Chats' regarding fantasy sex acts with children," wrote Greenwich police.

After obtaining a warrant, police arrested Zimmel on the above mentioned charge. He was released after posting bond on bail of $100,000 and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 30.
