Child Seriously Injured Under Care Of Greenwich Woman: Police
A 25-year-old Greenwich woman turned herself in to police Monday morning on an active arrest warrant, the Greenwich Police Department said.

GREENWICH, CT — A Greenwich woman turned herself in Monday morning on an arrest warrant that charges her with first-degree assault, risk of injury to a child, cruelty to persons and interfering, the Greenwich Police Department said.
Maria Martinez-Aguilar, 25, is being held on a court-set bond of $750,000.
Police said the arrest stems from an incident on Oct. 11, 2022, when a child was brought to the emergency room after suffering serious physical injuries.

An investigation by the GPD's Special Victims Section found that the child suffered the injuries while in the care of Martinez-Aguilar, police said. The age of the child was not disclosed by police.
The Special Victims Section investigates crimes committed against at-risk populations, including children, police noted.

The GPD said over 588,000 cases of child abuse were reported in the US in 2021. Of those cases, 1,753 resulted in death.
Martinez-Aguilar is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on March 27, according to her arrest report.
