GREENWICH, CT — A Christmas Day carjacking in Greenwich left police chasing a band of assailants.

At about 4 p.m., two men wearing hoodies approached a driver who had parked his vehicle in the CVS parking lot at 644 West Putnam Ave., police said.

The two demanded that the driver hand over the keys to his vehicle and when he refused, a scuffle broke out, police said. The driver was able to fight off both attackers, but another man then emerged from a previously stolen vehicle, implied he had a weapon and told the driver to stop fighting and hand over the keys, police said.

The man then complied and the assailants fled the area in that stolen vehicle, as well as one previously taken, police said. Greenwich officers attempted to stop the cars on Interstate 95 southbound, but the assailants were able to get away and New York authorities were notified.

GPD detectives are following several leads and working with agencies in New York on the case, police said.
