Clinical Partnership Enhancing Nurse's Aide Education in Stamford

Edgehill Senior Living Community Has Partnered with Northeast Medical Institute

Clinical experiences are important in enhancing the level of hands-on health care education, especially the education of a Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA). That is why Edgehill, a senior living community, and local 5-Star-rated sub-acute rehabilitation community, has enthusiastically sought a collaboration with Northeast Medical Institute (NEMI), a local Fairfield County post-secondary occupational school.

Under the direction of Gregory Shahum, health care administrator at Edgehill, and Daniel Remiszewski, the owner of NEMI, they have initiated a clinical partnership, which will benefit both the CNA students’ development and overall experience as well as that of Edgehill’s residents and guests.

“At Edgehill, we transform lives through human connection,” said Dr. Shahum. “Partnering with NEMI and creating a hands-on learning environment allows us to spread that message of human connection to students who will go out and champion this belief.”

For 20 years, Stamford-based Edgehill has provided its more than 200 residents with the value of Lifecare in all levels of living, including independent living, assisted living, sub-acute rehabilitation (skilled nursing), and memory care. The community offers a wide variety of activities and amenities that promote the vibrant and healthy lifestyle of residents, including maintenance-free apartments, a wellness center and multiple dining venues.

“The CNA program was created with the student’s interest in mind,” said Carlene Greene, a graduate of the course. “I received hands-on training at Edgehill that I’ll never forget and, thanks to the partnership, I’m well equipped with the knowledge to succeed in my role and have since started a position at Edgehill. Without this partnership, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Through the collaboration, the students from NEMI are provided one-on-one shadowing by one of Edgehill’s senior care staff, which takes place at Edgehill and provides the students with a real-world and memorable experience.

“This program has had a huge impact on the Institute and our CNA program,” said Remiszewski. “Our first class clinical was a huge hit with the students. The best experience we can provide a student who is interested in the medical field is hands-on experience, and Edgehill provides just that.”
