Coast Guard Suspends Long Island Sound Search Near Byram Shore
A report of a possible missing paddleboarder prompted a search Thursday night into Friday morning.
GREENWICH, CT — The United States Coast Guard has suspended a search following a report of a possible missing paddleboarder lost in Long Island Sound near Calf Island off the Byram shore Friday, but the agency is asking for the public's help to find the owner of the paddleboard.
"The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s assistance after receiving a report of an unmanned adrift, white and blue paddle board approximately half a quarter mile southwest of Calf Island, Connecticut," wrote officials in a statement. "No one has been reported missing or in distress in the area."
Thursday evening, NBC Connecticut reported that a search was underway after a Good Samaritan found the paddleboard and contacted authorities.

The Coast Guard called in various apparatus to assist in the search, including:
- A 45-foot Response Boat – Medium from Coast Guard Station New London
- An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts
By Friday morning, the search was called off because there had been no specific reports of a person missing in the area.

Calf Island is the largest island off the Greenwich shore, writes the Greenwich Time.
"Anyone with information on the location of the missing kayaker is encouraged to contact the Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center at 203-468-4401 or on the radio at VHF-FM marine radio channel-16."
