Connecticut Among Best States For Working Moms: 2018 Report
WalletHub breaks down which states are the best and worst for working mothers, and CT makes an impressive showing.

While the country is making strides to better support working mothers, there are still inequities when it comes to the workforce and parenting. For the most part, men still earn more than women, and there remain narrower paths up the corporate ladder for many women. And many companies still don't offer adequate child care, if they offer any at all, or other support for working moms.
Personal finance website WalletHub studied the issue and recently ranked 2018's Best & Worst States for Working Moms, and found that Connecticut fared quite well.
The Constitution State came in as the nation's fifth-best state for a working mom. To come up with its ranking, WalletHub studied various elements of three main criteria across the United States, 1) Child Care, 2) Professional Opportunities and 3) Work-Life Balance. Connecticut offers a great work-life balance (third overall), and quality child care (fourth overall). But the state lags far behind in professional opportunities (46th).
"Women make up nearly half of the U.S. workforce, and more than 70 percent of moms with young children are working," writes author John S. Kiernan. "Yet women earned only 82 percent of what men made in 2017 and have far less upward mobility, as evidenced by the fact that only 5.2 percent of S&P 500 companies’ chief executives are female."
