Construction Slated For I-684 In Greenwich; Public Hearing Scheduled

Residents will be able to learn about the project and ask questions during the public hearing.

GREENWICH, CT — Rehabilitation work is scheduled to take place on Interstate-684, and work includes the section of two bridges that go over the Byram River, which pass through Greenwich and North Castle, N.Y.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation will be holding a virtual public hearing on the project on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m., via Zoom (registration required) and YouTube.

The bridge that supports I-684 southbound belongs to the New York State Department of Transportation. The bridge on the opposite side of the highway that supports I-684 northbound belongs to CTDOT.

According to the project description, the rehabilitation will address the structural deficiencies of the bridges, which are currently in poor condition.

Superstructure replacements will occur during weekend bridge closures, the project description says. Temporary crossovers will be constructed in the median to allow for two lanes of both I-684 northbound and southbound to remain open during construction.

Three existing lanes will be reduced to two prior to shifting the traffic temporarily.

The project is anticipated to go into construction in spring 2024, and will completed in one construction season, the project description says.
