Contemporary Artist David Datuna Sole Exhibition

Contemporary artist David Datuna to present exclusive exhibition at Gilles Clement Gallery

Esteemed contemporary artist, David Datuna is set to present an exclusive solo exhibition at the Gilles Clement Gallery located in Greenwich Connecticut, this upcoming March 9th - April 9th, 2017.

He is known for exploring pivotal issues through multiple viewpoints. However, it is not the issues being explored that bring interest, but instead how he chooses to have the viewers explore them. Optical lenses are key to his practice.

Datuna overlays optical lenses in web-like patterns onto images of national flags, global brands, and portraits of famous authors, inventors, and artists of all kinds, composed of collaged photographs, newspaper articles, magazine clippings, and painted passages. The lenses, which simultaneously distort and clarify the images, signify the network of individual viewpoints brought to bear on all issue. In the past he has used the American and Israeli flags, logos from luxury companies like Louis Vuitton, and Marilyn Monroe—Datuna then covers the image with glasses, both positive and negative lenses to create rippling optical effects.
