Cos Cob's Members Credit Union Receives National Honors
The community credit union was lauded for its work with the underserved.

GREENWICH, CT - From Members Credit Union: Members Credit Union and its President/CEO, Kathy Chartier, were recently honored with two national credit union industry honors. Members Credit Union was chosen by the Credit Union Times to receive a Trailblazer Award and the Credit Union National Association selected Chartier as a CU Hero, both for outstanding service to the underserved community.
Members is a small community credit union – $30 million in assets – in Cos Cob, Connecticut. In Fairfield County, much of the wealth is concentrated and many low-paid service workers, often immigrants, struggle to make ends meet due to the high housing costs. The credit union commits to helping their members overcome some of the economic challenges they face through offering affordable financial services including used auto loans and small-balance, unsecured loans. All staff are certified financial counselors and active volunteers in the community.
Last year, Members was the first credit union in Connecticut to earn a Juntos Avanzamos (“Together We Advance”) designation from the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions. The Juntos Avanzamos credit unions are part of the federation’s mission to help people of modest means avoid predatory lenders and achieve financial independence.
