GREENWICH, CT — Two New York men are accused of throwing counterfeit money out of a car window as officers attempted to catch up to their vehicle, police said. According to an arrest report, a local merchant contacted police Saturday after being given a forged $50 bill.

The merchant gave officers a description of the suspect and the vehicle he entered. The vehicle was later seen traveling at high-speed on Greenwich Avenue, after which the driver made an unsafe turn onto Grigg Street and almost struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.

As officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle, they saw the passenger throw pieces of paper out the window, police said. Officers were eventually able to stop the vehicle and later recovered the paper, which was determined to be counterfeit currency, police said.
