CT Is #1 In The Country In This Couples Category: New Study

Bloomberg crunched the numbers and ranks Connecticut tops in this grouping.

Sure, Connecticut has a healthy number of residents who are affluent. But apparently it's many of the state's couples who are truly powerful, according to a new study by Bloomberg.

Connecticut is number one in the nation for two-career married "power couples" who together achieve 1 percenter status, the publication writes.

The combined incomes of 1 percenter power couples in Connecticut was $871,600 in 2016 (the most recent year for the data), almost $100,000 more than the state with the next highest power couple ranking, New York. Power couples in the Empire State together earned $789,800 the same year.

At the bottom of the spectrum, hurt by the drop in energy prices during the period were Alaska (#50, $363,900) and Wyoming (#49, $382,500). Maine came in 48th at $404,900.

Bloomberg wrote that it used the following methodology in crunching data from the United States Census Bureau: "Only included household income, not accumulated wealth, from two-earner, married family households, whether opposite- or same-sex couples, in which both spouses worked, regardless of full-time, part-time status; none of the other family member, neither children nor relatives, worked; only concerning household income which may include, but not limited to, wages, salaries, production-related bonuses, self-employment income, interests, dividends, net rental income, royalties, distributions from estate and trust."
