CT 4th Of July 2018 DUI Patrols, Spot Checks Released

HARTFORD, CT — Thousands of drivers will hit the road over the next few days to celebrate the 4th of July and State Police are reminding drivers to stay safe and avoid alcohol before driving.

Traffic is expected to pick up starting Monday and continue through Sunday July 7 evening. There will be extra DUI patrols and spot checks on days surrounding the holiday weekend.

"State Troopers depend on drivers to follow the law. Please do not drink and drive since that is a deadly combination," said Trooper First Class Kelly Grant, police spokesman. "If you are on the road and suspect a drunk driver, please call 911, as this is a true emergency."

Police also remind motorists to obey the Move Over Law. Drivers should move over a lane if safe and significantly reduce speed when approaching emergency vehicles that are stationary in the shoulder or breakdown lane.

During the 2017 July 4 weekend State Police issued 1,368 tickets for speeding, 2,941 tickets for moving violations and made 60 DUI arrests. There were also 398 crashes investigated by State Police including 50 with injuries and one fatality.
