GREENWICH, CT — A 29-year-old Connecticut man faces forgery charges after Greenwich police said he scammed a 67-year-old California woman into sending him cash through the mail.

Hardikkumar Patel, of West Haven, was arrested Jan. 13 and charged with second-degree forgery, criminal attempt at second-degree forgery and risk of injury to a child, according to his arrest report. Patel was unable to post a $75,000 bond.

Greenwich police said they received a call from a woman in Modesto, Calif., who said she fell victim to a scam and sent cash via the United Parcel Service to the CVS located on the Post Road in Cos Cob.

On Jan. 13, officers went to the area of the CVS around 1 p.m. A man, later identified as Patel, entered the store and requested to pick up the UPS package, police said.

Officers met with Patel, and found that he had numerous fraudulent California driver's licenses with his photo on them.

"Patel related that he used the fraudulent California licenses to assist him in this incident as well as others in the past," police said in an arrest report.

Additionally, officers found Patel's 3-year-old child outside in an Uber vehicle with the driver.

Patel also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of West Haven, police said. He's scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 27.
