To help you zero in on the best choices, Connecticut Magazine offers up a list of Connecticut's best restaurants for 2018, in which experts chose the best in 32 categories.

For example, under the category "Best for Overall Excellence," the magazine names the following 12 (in alphabetical order):

• Fresh Salt, Old Saybrook

• The White Hart, Salisbury
• Zinc, New Haven

Under "Best American" are:

• The Blue Hound Cookery & Taproom, Ivoryton
• Good News Cafe, Woodbury
• The Goose American Bistro & Bar, Darien
• Jesup Hall, Westport
• Match, Norwalk
• Mill Street Bar & Table, Greenwich
• Moxie, Madison
• Red 36, Mystic
• Republic at the Linden, Hartford
• The Spread, Norwalk

Other categories include "Best New," "Best Chef," "Best Roadside," "Best Food Truck," "Best Beer Bar," and a host of others.
