Dan Warzoha, Greenwich's Emergency Management Director, Has Died

GREENWICH, CT — Dan Warzoha, Greenwich's Emergency Management Operations Director and a former fire chief in town, has died, according to an announcement from First Selectman Fred Camillo. Warzoha was 68.

"A former Greenwich Fire Department Chief, and long time volunteer fireman, Dan had a lifelong love for his hometown, steadfast dedication to public safety, and immense pride as a son of Glenville," Camillo said in a statement on Sunday afternoon. "His legacy will also include his central role during one of the most challenging times of the modern era. Dan's daily presence, reassuring demeanor, vast institutional knowledge, strong network of contacts at the state level, and affable nature was a comfort to all of us who worked with him at the Town's Emergency Operations Center.

"Dan dedicated his life to Greenwich, and to its people. The town, and those people he served, will forever be grateful."

Warzoha was appointed as a coordinator for emergency management in Greenwich in 2005, and was named director in August of 2007. In his role, Warzoha helped coordinate Greenwich's emergency response plans among town and private organizations that play key or ancillary roles in responding to an incident of mass casualty, disaster or bioterrorism that may occur in or around Greenwich.

The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company posted a statement on its Facebook page Sunday afternoon. Warzoha was a life member and past district chief in Glenville.

"Our Memorial Plaque has been placed on the front outside wall of the firehouse, and the American Flag has been placed at half-staff, in Dan's memory. Dan's selfless contributions and services to our Town will be graciously remembered for many years to come. His loss to our community, and all that he provided, is significant," the post read. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time."
