Decorated Greenwich Detective Promoted To Sergeant

GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department last week promoted Det. Justin Rivera to the rank of sergeant.

Rivera was sworn in by First Selectman Fred Camillo during a brief ceremony at Town Hall on Aug. 6.

"Throughout his career, Sergeant Rivera has demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to serving the Greenwich community," the GPD said in an announcement. "His promotion reflects his continued hard work, leadership, and commitment to the Department and those we serve."

The department noted Rivera will be assigned to the patrol division, where he will take on new leadership responsibilities while supporting officers and the community.

"Congratulations to Sergeant Rivera on this well-deserved achievement," the GPD said. "We wish him continued success as he begins this next chapter of his career with the Greenwich Police Department!"

Rivera joined the department in 2012 and has served in a variety of roles, including as a master police officer, training officer and member of the GPD Emergency Services Unit.

Rivera has earned Officer of the Month honors from the department, as well as the 2024 Dr. John Clarke Award for Officer of the Year, the department’s highest award, which is presented by the Lions Club of Greenwich.
