Erin Stewart Changes Course, Opposes Tesei For Lt. Guv: Report

The New Britain Mayor had tapped Greenwich's First Selectman as her running mate, but she's now reportedly dropping her gubernatorial bid.

GREENWICH, CT — Less than three weeks after picking Greenwich First Selectman Peter Tesei as her Lt. Governor choice in her gubernatorial bid, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart is ending her run for the Governor's office and will oppose Tesei and others as a Lt. Governor candidate, reports the Hartford Courant.

The chaotic turn of events comes hours before the Republican nominating convention scheduled to begin this afternoon at Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Stewart tapped Tesei, in part, to help give a much-needed jolt to her fundraising efforts, and to help her secure more delegate support.

What happened to those efforts is unclear, but the two were behind other Republican candidates, among them Darien First Selectman Jayme Stevenson for Lt. Governor.

Stevenson reportedly has worked hard and effectively for weeks to build support for her candidacy, tirelessly traveling around Connecticut to meet with members of many of the state's Republican town committees.

She told the Courant that Stewart's move showed a "lack of discipline."
