Opening Reception for "The Art of Trompe L’oeil" Joel Carson Jones Painting Exhibition.
Cavalier Gallery is pleased to present a special exhibition of paintings by Joel Carson Jones, master of the art of realism, still-life, and trompe l’oeil. With great discipline, he creates paintings which are meticulous in detail and imbued with a heightened sense of reality. In contrast to the rigor with which he approaches technique, Jones chooses modern and often whimsical objects to paint thus creating an appealing dichotomy. His goal is to get beyond the mastery of producing an illusion, and to create a connection with his subject. As he says in his artist statement “Through years of daily work with seemingly ordinary objects - toys, ripening fruit, figurines, playing cards, I've begun to feel a deeper connection with what I used to take for granted, almost a symbolism, or a place for what is easily discarded. I have been tricked by what could be called my development or even my obsession. I have noticed a subtle change, a new illusion, tricking our eyes into the emotional depth of objects that are daily fixtures around us. I am also driven to the challenge of interweaving emotion into these technical pieces. Through emotion, I strive to give a humanistic quality to such work.”
