'Families Belong Together' Rally In Greenwich June 30

Hosted by Indivisible Greenwich, the event is one of many rallies planned for that day in Washington, D.C. and across the nation.

GREENWICH, CT — The grassroots political advocacy group Indivisible Greenwich will host a "Families Belong Together" rally at Greenwich Town Hall at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, the group announced on its Facebook page.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday to end the border policy of separating immigrant families, but the order does not address what to do with the thousands of children who have already been taken from their parents/guardians and placed in detention facilities.

The June 30 event is in coordination with similar rallies in Washington DC and around the country at the same time, and will be peaceful with no civil disobedience involved.

"Although President Trump signed an executive order suspending his own heinous practice of separating migrant children from their parents, the fight to restore basic human rights to those crossing the border illegally, or seeking asylum under international law, are far from over," wrote Greenwich Democrats in a statement urging members of the party to attend the rally. "Trump’s executive order does nothing to reunite the more than 2,300 children already separated—some of whom may never be returned to their parents. And instead of separating families, the Trump administration is putting them into mass prison camps."

The Democratic group added, "Your vigilance is what got Trump to reverse his family separation policy. We must keep the pressure on to put an end to the rest of his inhumane immigration policy."
