Sacred Heart Greenwich will hold its 15th annual Katie Cassidy Higgins ’96 Memorial Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday, May 21 at the school’s fields, located at 1177 King Street in Greenwich.
The tournament, popular with middle school girls’ teams, will bring hundreds of student-athletes from Fairfield and Westchester Counties to Greenwich to compete throughout the day. “We are looking forward to welcoming the teams to Sacred Heart Greenwich for a day filled with lacrosse, fun and camaraderie under sunny skies,” said Kelly Stone, director of athletics.
Competition begins at 8 a.m. for teams in the first session. The second session begins at 12:30 p.m. with warm-up and then competition at 1 p.m. Games run form 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the traditional alumnae game starting at 1:30 p.m. Food trucks, vendors, a DJ, and face painter will make this a fun family excursion for athletes and families. Admission is free.

Tournament proceeds will support a four-year scholarship to attend Sacred Heart. Since its inception, the tournament has sponsored the education of four Upper School students. This tournament was established to honor the memory of Katie Cassidy Higgins ’96, her spirit, work ethic and love of athletics. Katie, a three-sport varsity athlete in field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, attended Sacred Heart from kindergarten through high school. After graduating in 1996, she went on to play lacrosse at St. Lawrence University. During her sophomore year, her life was cut short when she was killed while crossing a street on campus.
