GREENWICH, CT — Crews worked to extinguish a fire that broke out at a Greenwich pizzeria Monday night after receiving a tip from an alert police officer on patrol. According to Lt. John Slusarz, officer Brian Andronaco noticed smoke in the Cos Cob area of town around 11 p.m.

Andronaco was able to trace the source of the smoke to 522 East Putnam Avenue, which houses Pizza Post, Gofer Ice Cream and several other businesses and offices. He quickly alerted the fire department, who immediately sent crews to the building.

The fire was located on the first floor but "rapidly spread" to the second floor and through the roof, firefighters said on Facebook. Through hard work, crews were eventually able to bring the fire under control.
