Former Greenwich Cop Gave Felon Firearm: U.S. Attorney
The former police officer transferred firearms to a known convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
GREENWICH, CT — A Trumbull man who is a former Greenwich Police officer was arrested by federal law enforcement after he provided firearms to a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney District of Connecticut office.
The investigation started after Ansonia Police searched a residence on April 27,2018 in order to seize 12 firearms. Investigators only found five firearms during the search, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Joseph Ryan, 56, who was then a Greenwich Police officer took custody of the five firearms that had been seized.

Members of the New Haven Police Department and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives made controlled purchases of four firearms from Malique Martin, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Three of the four guns were ones that Ryan took into his custody.
Ryan transferred the firearms to an individual he knew was a convicted felon and that individual helped facilitate heroin transactions between Ryan and Ryan's heroin supplier, according to the U.S. Attorney's office. Some of the firearms were transferred to Martin.

Ryan was released on a $100,000 bond after appearing in federal court. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the charge of providing a convicted felon with a firearm.
