The Greenwich Department of Public Works posted an update on construction of the new civic center on Monday.
GREENWICH, CT — Construction on the new Cohen Greenwich Eastern Civic Center is progressing, according to the latest update from the Greenwich Department of Public Works.
Work on the facility's foundation is underway, which includes the installation of under-slab plumbing and electric utilities, DPW said in a Facebook post Monday.

The town officially broke ground on the new civic center last month following the demolition of the old building, which occurred late in the summer.
The new civic center is being built on the same footprint as the old structure. It will be one-story and 35,418-square feet, and include a full-size multi-use gymnasium with roll-out spectator seating; 8,100 square feet of multi-use event space; three 1,000-square-foot activity rooms, two of which will share a partition that can be opened to create a larger room; and other amenities.

The building is named after Steven and Alexandra Cohen, who donated $5 million last year as part of a naming rights deal for the project.
Steven Cohen is a Greenwich resident and owner of the New York Mets. He's also the founder of Point72 asset management, a hedge fund company headquartered in Stamford.
Greenwich Director of Building Construction and Maintenance Luigi Romano said last month that construction is scheduled to be complete by fall of 2023.
