The Fruits (and Vegetables) of a Labor of Love at Augustine's Farm
There's a veritable cornucopia of seasonal favorites at Greenwich's only working farm.
Corn. Squash. Eggplant. Carrots. Heirloom tomatoes. Honey. Eggs. A rainbow of mini potatoes. Swiss chard. Cucumbers. Cabbage. A variety of lettuces. A painter’s palette of colorful flowers.
It’s a veritable cornucopia of seasonal favorites at Greenwich’s only working farm.
Kathy and John Augustin and their small staff are in the throes of harvesting the season’s bounty that’s all homegrown with love — and all from seed — at Augustine’s Farm on King Street in Greenwich. The nearly 10-acre farm has been in John’s family for 65 years.

They’re open daily, and on weekends the regulars queue up at the counter laden with the fruits — and vegetables — of the couple’s labor.
The other day, Kathy had an unusually shaped heirloom tomato — about the size of a softball — on display. The bottom of the tomato was crowned with multi-colored smaller tomatoes.

“I have 150 heirloom tomato plants and that’s the only one that looks like that,” Kathy said as she bagged some sweet corn for a customer.
“I’ve never had a tomato like that,” she added.
While the harvesting continues, John is busy planting the last batch of corn in the neatly plowed fields that are dotted with homemade scarecrows and birdhouses.
And just in time for fall, the farm just received a dozens of baby hens that’ll soon be laying eggs, and hardy mums. And the pumpkin patch is starting to ripen too!
The farm at 1332 King St. is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
