GHS Boys Indoor Track Team Competes At North Shore Invitational
"All in all the group did a great job of representing GHS at the meet," according to Coach Jeff Klein.

The following wrap up of the Greenwich High School Boys Indoor Track Team's results from the recent North Shore Invitational is by Coach Jeff Klein:
A group of 17 Cardinal boys competed on December 26th, 2018 at the Armory in NYC at the North Shore Invitational. We had 9 new LL qualifiers, 11 new qualifiers for the FCIAC meet, and many personal bests (PBs). All in all the group did a great job of representing GHS at the meet.
Sprints
Starting with our sprinters, the group had some very impressive results in both the 55 and 300 meters. Zane Nye led our 55 meter sprinters as he had the 6th fastest time in the heats out of the 163 competitors. That earned him a spot in the finals where he ran a time of 6.76 to earn 5th place. We had two new qualifiers for the LL in the event as Tommy Pastore and Lance Large both ran PB's of 6.99 and 7.02 seconds, placing 28th and 32nd. Tyler Bacco and William Taki also had PB's in the 55.

We had 6 boys compete in the 300 meter race and they came away with 5 PB times, led by Lance Large who had an oustanding run finishing in 36.97 seconds. Lance placed 13th overall out of 236 three hundred meter runners at the meet! His time was also likely one of the 10 best ever run by a Cardinal athlete in the event. Nye came back from his 55 meter effort to gain a PB as well taking 29th place in 37.97. 38 was a lucky number for Pastore as he ran 38.38 for a 3 second PB taking 38th place. Large, Nye and Pastore all qualified for the LL meet. Ian Foster finished in 39.71 seconds to qualify for the FCIAC meet in the 300. Achieving PB times were Taki (41.66) and Bacco (42.72).
Mid-Distance/Distance
Our lone 600 meter entrant was Anthony Hill who ran a large PB time of 1:35 to qualify for the FCIAC meet. He also placed 33rd in the 55 meter high hurdles. Akash Molekudy ran the 1000, just missing the FCIAC qualifying time as he finished in 2:56.54.

Both of our runners in the 3200 qualified for he FCIAC and LL meets as Alex Kosyakov placed 16th in this inviatonal event with a PB time of 10:18.04. Aidan Brock also ran well finishing in 19th with a time of 10:19.
Kosyakov didn't stop there coming back later in the 1600 and achieving another PB time running 4:46.32 to qualify in a second event at the meet for both the LL and FCIAC meets. This was good for 12th place among the 146 milers at the meet. Brock also doubled back well placing 24th with a time of 4:53 while Molekudy achieved a season best time of 4:55 for 33rd. Freshman Robert Enslein, who had earlier competed in the 1000, ran a PB of 5:12 while Zach Santoro had a large PB finishin in 5:22.
Field
Owen Bianchi led our jumpers as he had a meet high GHS finish of 4th place in the triple jump leaping 41 feet 1.5 inches. This is an event not competed in CT indoor track but it was a good chance for him to get a head start on a key event in outdoor track. Biachi was also our top long jumper on the day as he placed 12th reaching 19 feet 7 inches. Michael Phillips also long jumped reaching a PB of 15 feet 8 inches. In the high jump Hill tied his all-time PB clearing 5 feet 8 inches, good for an LL qualifying effort. Bianchi also competed in the high jump reaching 5 feet 6 inches.
James Heavey represented the team in the shot put and had his best of the season as he threw the shot 35 feet three quaters of an inch. That mark qualified him for the FCIAC meet.
It was a fun day all around with some very good performances. Next week the meet schedule continues with 2 meets - our second FCIAC qualifier meet at Staples and an invitational meet at the Freedom Games. That meet is at another great track facility at Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
