Great Captain Island Ferry In Greenwich Out Of Service Indefinitely, Officials Say

The ferry was scheduled to begin service to the island on Saturday, June 10, but that is now delayed.

GREENWICH, CT — The Great Captain Island Ferry will be out of service for repairs until further notice, according to the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation.

"The Islander II (built in 1948), was on her return from the shipyard when an engine problem occurred resulting in the vessel being returned to the shipyard," wrote officials in a statement. "Due to the age of the engine and the availability of parts, there is not adequate time to acquire the necessary parts, complete the repairs, conduct sea trials, and to [quickly] put the vessel back into service."

The ferry was scheduled to begin service to Great Captain Island this Saturday, June 10.
