Greens Farms Academy Athlete From Greenwich Featured

Another milestone was the highlight of the Greens Farms Academy sports week as boys basketball senior guard Cole Prowitt-Smith was honored for scoring his 1,000th point last week.

That and a couple more wins highlighted the week heading into the Dragons’ holiday break.

Here’s a rundown of last week’s action:

BOYS BASKETBALL

Prowitt-Smith (Fairfield), who was honored during the game for scoring the 1,000th point of his varsity basketball career, scored 20 points to lead the Dragons to the win over Rye Country Day on Tuesday.

David Basich (Westport) added 13 points while Greg Lawrence (Fairfield) tallied 12 as GFA evened its record at 3-3. TJ Holloway (Orange) added nine more to the winning effort.

Lawrence gathered in 13 rebounds for GFA and had six assists. Prowitt-Smith had seven rebounds and four assists.

Later in the week, Lawrence scored 21 points and Basich tossed in a career-high 20 points to lead GFA to the road win at Capital Prep Harbor at the University of Bridgeport on Thursday.

Holloway added 14 and Prowitt-Smith had 12 for the Dragons. Noah Kanfer (Westport) came off the bench to chip in another eight, as well.

Lawrence also grabbed 16 rebounds while Basich had six assists and Prowitt-Smith had five.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

After a solid start, the Dragons were topped by Wilbraham and Monson by a 66-26 score last Wednesday.

Katherine Marcus (New Canaan) and Kelly van Hoesen (Greenwich) scored eight points each to lead GFA.

Marcus added 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists while van Hoesen had six boards.

BOYS SQUASH

The Dragons rolled into the holiday break with a 6-1 win over New Canaan.

Marshall Bessey (Darien) and Giani Panariello (Westport) both pulled out five-game wins for GFA.

Bessey won 10-12, 11-4, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7 with Panariello winning 11-8, 6-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6. Other winners for GFA were: Blake Newcomer (Greenwich: 11-2, 11-9, 11-6), Eddie Xue (Westport: 11-5, 11-8, 11-9), Will Mackle (New Canaan: 12-10, 11-7, 6-111, 11-5) and Piero Panariello (Westport: 11-5, 11-9, 11-8).
