Greens Farms Academy Weekly Sports Roundup
The GFA athletics roundup includes a number of student-athletes from Greenwich.

WESTPORT, CT — History was made this week on the Greens Farms Academy sports scene.
During a road win at Hotchkiss, Dragons senior varsity basketball player Katherine Marcus (New Canaan) scored the 1,000th point of her career in her team’s 60-38 win.
Marcus became the third girls player in GFA history to reach the milestone mark.

Marcus poured in 30 points, including the 1,000th of her varsity career, as the GFA Dragons improved to 5-0 on the season with a 60-38 win over Hotchkiss on Saturday.
Georgia Grabowski (Stratford) added 18 points to the winning effort, as well, while Sarah Peltier (Stamford) chipped in eight more.
Marcus also had 11 rebounds and seven steals while Grabowski had five rebounds and five steals. Kristiana Modzelewski (Westport) pulled down six rebounds while Caroline McCall (Westport) hauled in five boards, as well.
Earlier in the week, GFA topped Westminster by a 46-29 score.
Marcus had 15 points while Grabowski added 13 more. Menna Delva (Norwalk) chipped in with nine and Kelly van Hoesen (Greenwich) added eight for the Dragons.
Marcus added six steals, four rebounds and two assists while van Hoesen chipped in with five steals, four rebounds and two assists.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The host Dragons turned a tight first-half contest into a runaway with a big second half, topping Hopkins 65-34 at Coyle Gym.
GFA was led by Cole Prowitt-Smith (Fairfield), who had 18 points and five assists, and Greg Lawrence (Fairfield), who netted 17 points, picked off seven rebounds and notched five steals.
Teddy Brown (Greenwich) had nine points and nine rebounds while TJ Holloway (Orange) had five assists.
The Dragons evened their record at 2-2, 1-1 in FAA play.
Earlier in the week, the Dragons fell to rival St. Luke's 51-49 on Wednesday, losing on a tip-in offensive rebound with one second left in the game.
Lawrence had 13 and Holloway had 11. Prowitt-Smith and Kobi Agard (Norwalk) had nine each for the Dragons.
Lawrence had 15 rebounds, two steals and two blocks while Hollway, Prowitt-Smith and Brown had five rebounds each. Prowitt-Smith had four assists.
BOYS SQUASH
Greens Farms Academy hosted one of Brunswick's squash teams on Thursday at the squash center and the Dragons walked off with a 7-0 win.
Will Sarbinowski (Darien) won 11-4, 11-1, 11-8; Blake Newcomer (Darien) won 11-3, 11-3, 11-3; Giani Panariello (Westport) won 11-7, 11-2, 11-4; Marshall Bessey (Darien) won 11-4, 11-5, 11-7; Will Mackle (New Canana) won 11-8, 11-6, 11-7; Piero Panariello (Westport) won 11-2, 11-4, 11-2; and Patrick Howard (New Canaan) won 11-6, 11-3, 11-9.
Luke Hammer (Darien) won his exhibition match 11-1, 11-2, 11-5.
GIRLS SQUASH
Greens Farms Academy won spots four through seven on the ladder to take a 4-3 win over Westover on Wednesday and even its record at 1-1 on the season.
Mary Kessler (Westport) won 8-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-7; Lucy Nelson (Westport) won 11-6, 11-5, 11-5; Annabelle Kreitler (Fairfield) won 11-5, 11-4, 11-9; and Keely O'Shea (Darien) won 10-12, 11-3, 11-9, 11-4 to clinch the match for GFA.
The Dragons hosted New Canaan High School at the squash center on Thursday, falling to the Rams to slip to 1-2 on the season.
Clare Foley (Southport) was the lone Dragon to take a game off the Rams, playing at the No. 1 slot.
WRESTLING
The GFA Dragons wrestling team went on the road this weekend for the Loomis Duals.
The Dragons went 1-3 on the day wrestling St Benedict’s School of Newark NJ (39-42), Lawrenceville (34-42), The Brunswick School (22-48) and Loomis Chaffee School (42-27).
While the results were not what the Dragons were looking for there were several bright spots to focus on leading into next week’s Shelton Invitational Wrestling Tournament.
Starting off the GFA lineup three wrestlers went undefeated on the day, including Caleb Seyfried (Westport) at 106, Nico Provo (Stratford) at 113, and CJ Shea (Milford) at 120.
These three wrestlers never allowed anyone into the third period, pinning all of their opponents in the first two periods to finish the day a perfect 4-0.
Senior captain Griffin Seyfried (Westport) along with freshmen Mikey Bartush (Norwalk) and Peter Kane (Fairfield) each went 3-1 on the day with strong showings in the rest of their bouts.
Senior captain Adler Viton (Greenwich) went 2-2 in the 195-pound weight class.
The Dragons had three first-year wrestlers in the lineup who fought hard but struggled on the scoresheet and several forfeits.
The Dragons return to action this weekend for the Shelton Invitational at Shelton HS were they will look to repeat as tournament champions.
