Greenwich Alliance For Education’s Turkey Trot Returns In November

The 13th annual event will raise funds for Greenwich Public School programs. Registration is open now.

GREENWICH, CT — The 13th Turkey Trot returns to Greenwich on Saturday, Nov. 25, with nearly 2,000 participants and spectators expected to take part in the largest community event of the Thanksgiving weekend.

The popular 5K race/one-mile fun run raises funds for Greenwich Public School programs, with a new individual fundraising opportunity for runners and walkers expected to generate exponential benefits for students, according to event organizer Greenwich Alliance for Education.

Registrants can choose from either a 5K race or a non-competitive one-mile run/walk.

The one-mile fun run/walk, sponsored by Cadillac of Greenwich, starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5K race, sponsored by Coldwell Banker Realty, at 10 a.m. Warm-up and stretching for all participants will be offered at 9 a.m.

"The Turkey Trot is a beloved community tradition which brings fun – and fundraising – to Greenwich’s Thanksgiving weekend activities," said Julie Faryniarz, executive director for Greenwich Alliance for Education. "This year’s event promises to be our biggest and best yet for Greenwich Public Schools, with support from both new and returning sponsors and first-ever fundraising capabilities for individual participants."

Registration, which is available online here costs $15 for children (13 and under) and $30 for adults until Oct. 31.

Adult pricing increases to $40 from Nov. 1 to Nov. 24, and $50 on race day (Nov. 25).

All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will directly benefit Greenwich Alliance for Education programs which fund innovation, expand opportunities and inspire teachers to foster educational success for Greenwich Public School students.

New for 2023, is the ability for runners and walkers to launch personalized “sponsor my race” campaigns, which enable individuals to fundraise. Top fundraisers will receive a prize in addition to race prizes awarded to the top three overall male and female 5K runners, as well as top three male and female finishers in nine age categories, from 10-and-under to 70-plus. All 1-mile finishers will receive medals.

The Alliance’s annual "Run For Your School Competition" also will recognize two Greenwich schools – one with the greatest number of registered runners and the other with the greatest percentage of registrants based on enrollment – for significant overall contributions.

For the second year in a row, the time and talents of the First Selectman’s Youth Commission, a 29-member community of teens representing different backgrounds, different schools, different geographic parts of town and different interests, will be leveraged to expand the event’s impact.

Performance material t-shirts are guaranteed to runners who register by Nov. 8.

Pre-registrants are encouraged to pick up race materials – bibs, t-shirts and goody bags – on Friday, Nov. 24, at Cadillac of Greenwich at 144 Railroad Ave.

Race-day registration will take place inside the Arch Street Teen Center from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.

Founded in 2006 as a way for the Greenwich community to support the Greenwich Public School system, the Greenwich Alliance for Education funds innovation, expands opportunities and inspires educators.
