GREENWICH, CT — According to the 2023 list of "Safest Cities in America" put together by real estate analytics firm Neighborhood Scout, Greenwich is ranked No. 87.
Only five CT municipalities made the list; Ridgefield was ranked No. 1, followed by Wallingford (53), Cheshire (68), Greenwich (87) and New Milford (92).

The honor for Greenwich comes on the heels of another study that was released by personal finance firm MoneyGeek which placed the town among the 10 safest small towns to live in.
The MoneyGeek study is done annually and it ranks the safest small towns by the cost of crime per capita.
On this year’s list, Greenwich was ranked 10th in the entire county with a cost of $81 per capita. Greenwich was the highest-ranked Connecticut town on MoneyGeek's list.
"Being on another list certainly is a testament to the Greenwich Police Department and not only the hard work they've put in day in and day out, but also the forward-thinking and the strategies that go into their work," First Selectman Fred Camillo told Patch. "I know they're very cognizant of all of the trends and they use the latest technologies. They're never satisfied even if we're rated the safest town in the country."
Camillo said Greenwich is still a target, as are other towns in Fairfield County and around the state.
"We constantly work at it, and while these recognitions are terrific and this proves that all the hard work that goes into public safety is paying off, we still know we have a lot of work to do and it's really an evolving and day-to-day process where we have to always be vigilant," Camillo added.
With 13 violent crimes and 495 property crimes, Greenwich is considered safer than 59 percent of U.S. neighborhoods, according to Neighborhood Scout's analysts. In Greenwich, the crime rate per 1,000 residents is eight, and the chance of being a victim is 1 in 125.
